Light of Literacy (Worldwide) | BWA Women

Light of Literacy

In Papua New Guinea (PNG), more than one-third of the population is illiterate, and the majority of these are women and girls. Illiteracy has long hindered women’s participation in community life, church leadership, and income-generating opportunities. Many are unable to read or write even simple words, making them dependent on others for daily tasks, and limiting their ability to read the Word of God for themselves.

The local leadership within Baptist Women of Papua New Guinea (BWAPNG) recognizes that empowering women through literacy is essential to both personal transformation and community development. By addressing illiteracy, we strengthen families, churches, and communities.

The Women’s Literacy Project will make a tangible difference in the lives of more than 50 women and girls across Papua New Guinea equipping them with the lifelong gift of literacy, dignity, and faith. With your support, we can transform communities through education and empowerment, one woman at a time.
