Praying for the Lord’s Favor

I grew up in a nominal Christian home and chose an educational path. It was a dream of mine to study journalism and media. I entered the university with great confidence and eagerness with many eyes watching me. I had experiences that were able to provide me with unique perspective, discoveries, and awareness.

Then I met a friend who embraced her fear, uncertainty, anxiety, and constant questions and opened the door to salvation before me by asking, “What do you know about God’s love?” With amazement, I answered: “God is punishing us. How can he love us?” I was close to him by ritual prayers without knowing him as my Savior and Holy Father. I mumbled my words and constant pleas and thought he will not hear us.

Here was the beginning, the new path, when my friend shared with me the four spiritual principles, which were the most widespread means of spreading the Good News of Christ. I learned God’s love and his unique plan for my life as mentioned in the Bible in 1 John 4:16 and John 10:10.

The signs of astonishment did not leave my face, and the truth was more substantial than withdrawing, leaving my friend talking to herself. I was drawn to the sight of the path and solution that God had drawn for man, to be the only remedy for man’s rebellion against God, his indifference to the things of God, and his failure to keep God’s commandments.

From that moment, I surrendered my life to Christ and asked for Christ to be the Lord and Savior of my life. It was a celebration to announce a new beginning and a page that carries the Good News of hope that had been missing for many years.

Since that time, My plans have changed. God’s voice was very close to me, and his call to be the voice of all women of the world through media was very strong. I answered the call and responded to that call by devoting my life to spreading the message of hope to those who have no hope. It was not a complicated issue from the perspective of a person who does not know limits and does not stand in front of any helpless barrier.

Instead, my motto was like the prayer of Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:10, “Oh that you would bless me.  And you will expand my borders, your hand will be with me, and you will protect me from evil so that it does not tire me. So God gave him what he asked for.” And God gave me what I asked for when He had appointed me and planned for my life.

Soon after, I met my companion. At that time, he was a friend who was a few years older than me, highly educated and had a strong desire and belief to study theology in America. God wanted to bring us together despite difficult circumstances.

In the summer of 1987, we moved from Jordan to the American state of Texas where my husband, Nabeeh Abbassi, studied and worked. I also worked at the same theological college so that we could meet our needs and be satisfied with everything God provided for us, day by day and month after month.

I spent seven years in exile during which I realized my feelings and that God carefully charts my path. We returned home with a dream to establish a bright and luminous future. Nabeeh was ordained pastor of Al-Husn Baptist Church, north of Jordan, where we served for twelve years. Together, we developed the service, cared for the church’s people, and built a large tower to be a place for generations to succeed in church work, evangelism, and discipleship.

The dream came to light with a divine plan. It was intended to be a healing journey for every Arab woman, whether Christian or Muslim, who was exposed to injustice, oppression, slavery, and reactionary culture in her society. It was for every woman who broke her shackles and set out, freed from the sins of humanity, washed away from the obsessions of fear, and armed with deep, firm faith.

After ten years of prayer and certainty of faith, in 1999 I began my journey on the radio with a divine timing prepared by God. My prayers were answered here, and the door to go forth was wide open. What an opportunity it was to start a program for women and name it (“Woman Today”).

I devoted my energy and passion for ten years to reaching the women’s hearts with the Gospel message. As a result of this program, the ministry expanded and impacted hundreds of thousands of women. After 30 years of church service and 25 years of women’s ministry, we reach millions of women through social media, providing discipleship and counseling, bringing peace to their lives through a journey of transformation.

Here I am. I was lost, and now I’m found. I was blind and now I see and do and speak the love of Jesus to the oppressed women amid the turmoil and injustice. Praise be to God.

In the Bible, wisdom is not merely intellectual knowledge but practical and spiritual insight that guides how we live. When we fear God – when we place Him at the center of our lives, honor His commands, and acknowledge His sovereignty – we open ourselves to His wisdom.
