The Power of Being Prayed For

A Bible Study from BWA President Karlene Edwards-Warrick

Hebrews 7:25 NIV, “Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”

There’s something deeply comforting about knowing someone is praying for you. Whether it’s a text saying, “I am praying for you today” or a quiet hand on your shoulder, the power of intercession reminds us we are not alone. The breathtaking reality is Jesus is alive, and He is constantly interceding for us. Not occasionally. Not when we deserve it. Always.

This reality reminds us that even when we feel unworthy, uncertain, or lost, Jesus is at the right hand of the Father, interceding on our behalf. His role as our High Priest isn’t theoretical. It is intimate and unrelenting. He saves completely because He lives continually to stand in the gap for us.

I remember the COVID-19 pandemic as a period of uncertainty and anxiety. I remember the devastating news reports, wondering when it would all end and we would return to some measure of normalcy. Prayers felt hollow, and Scripture felt far away. I wondered if God was hearing my prayers and those of many.

One night, utterly exhausted, Colossians 1:17 resonated with me: “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. I whispered a prayer: “Jesus, you are sovereign, and you are all knowing. I totally depend on you to carry me through this period of uncertainty and anxiety.  I felt a deep peace even in the midst of that period of uncertainty.

In that quiet moment, I sensed, not audibly, but deeply, this truth: “I am in control, don’t you worry.”

It was Hebrews 7:25 in action. Jesus wasn’t waiting for me to be strong enough to come to Him. He was already interceding, already holding me, already covering me in my time of weakness with His strength.

This promise isn’t just personal, it’s global. In every nation, among every people, Jesus is interceding for those who come to God through Him. In the war zones of the Middle East, the hidden churches of Asia, the struggling congregations of rural Africa, and the busy cities of the West, His intercession spans every border and barrier.

Think of persecuted believers today, those who are imprisoned for their faith. Many have no access to a pastor, a church, or even a Bible. Yet Jesus is still their High Priest. He is praying for them. He is with them.

Reflection/Discussion Questions
  • What would happen if we lived with the constant awareness that Jesus is praying for us – trusting that He is praying for our families, our communities, our nations?
  • Would we live with more boldness? More peace? More compassion?

Let’s pray rogether…

Lord Jesus, thank You for being my High Priest, my constant intercessor. Even when I am anxious or far from You, you never stop praying for me. You live forever, and so Your saving work is forever. Help me to rest in this truth. In your powerful name, Amen.

Fear the Lord

Fear the Lord

In the Bible, wisdom is not merely intellectual knowledge but practical and spiritual insight that guides how we live. When we fear God – when we place Him at the center of our lives, honor His commands, and acknowledge His sovereignty – we open ourselves to His wisdom.
