FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(FALLS CHURCH, VIRGINIA – November 3, 2025) For 75 years, Baptists around the world have united annually for the Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer. What began in 1950 as a call for global intercession in the aftermath of World War II has become a powerful movement of women lifting needs and nations before God. Traditionally held on the first Monday of November, this worldwide observance now includes gatherings throughout October and November hosted by Baptist World Alliance Women (BWA Women), their seven continental unions, national Baptist women’s unions, regional associations, and local churches across the globe.
This milestone year marks the event’s historic 75th anniversary and an opportunity to celebrate generations of women who have prayed, given, and served together to advance God’s mission. The 2025 theme is “Living the Good News” derived from Luke 4:18-19 which was also highlighted as the theme for the quinquennial Baptist Women’s Summit hosted in Brisbane, Australia, in July.
To help the BWA global network engage in this legacy of prayer, BWA Women has created a suite of 2025 Day of Prayer resources and a special three-fold action plan called My 75 to help women Live the Good News through faithful prayer, bold witness, and generous giving. Women around the world are encouraged to:
- PRAY: Unite with women for a 30-Day Prayer Journey guided by daily email prompts.
 - SHARE: Write down the names of five people to pray for daily, seeking doors of opportunity to share the Good News over the coming year.
 - GIVE: Participate in the annual Day of Prayer Offering that supports ministry projects around the world designed to impact the lives of women, children, and families.

Through this year’s offering, BWA Women is…
- Empowering women in Laos through training in organic farming and livestock practices
 - Supporting operations at a facility in the United States that currently hosts eight ethnic congregations and 12 nonprofits collectively serving 40,000+ people
 - Establishing a safe, clean, and dignified space at a Liberian school where 250 girls can access feminine hygiene products and essential care during their menstrual cycle
 - Training women in Lebanon how to help children process trauma, rebuild resilience, and rediscover hope after the devastating impacts of war and violence
 - Providing support in Mexico for children with parents in prison, guiding them toward academic success and social thriving
 - Sharing holistic Gospel witness with children and families in vulnerable communities in Chile impacted by addiction
 - Providing resources and training in Cuba to support Bible School programs that nurture faith and learning for children in remote mountain communities
 - Offering intentional mentorship, guidance, and spiritual support to young boys in Trinidad and Tobago as they navigate critical stages of growth and development
 - Fostering spiritual growth, leadership skills, and mentorship opportunities in Poland to strengthen women’s ministry in the local church
 - Addressing literacy challenges for women in Papua New Guinea where an estimated one third of the population cannot read
 - Raising up the next generation by facilitating an annual leadership development cohort for young women with representatives from each Continental Union
 - Sourcing, creating, and distributing resources to help individuals, congregations, and communities around the world stand against domestic violence.

“As we celebrate this 75-year legacy, we build on the prayers of those who came before us and press forward in unity, believing that the world changes when women pray,” said Merritt Johnston, BWA Women Executive Director. “History shows that women are powerful change agents in their communities, and we pray that this Day of Prayer movement will once again create a ripple effect of hope and transformation in homes, churches, and communities around the world.”
In addition to the many who are hosting local gatherings today, thousands of women joined the Day of Prayer Global Worship Celebration on October 11 that featured worship, prayer, ministry updates, and the debut of the 2025 Day of Prayer theme song.
